Past the Shinnecock Canal the road narrows into County Road 39 and Montauk Highway, and that is where summer traffic slows. These are the usual drive times from JFK to each village.

Landing on a Summer Friday
A Friday afternoon flight lands right as the whole city heads east. A drive to East Hampton that can take under two hours on a quiet Tuesday can take close to four.
We can't stop the traffic. We track your flight, so your chauffeur is ready when you land, and your price stays the same no matter how long the drive takes. Every car has Wi-Fi and bottled water, so you can work, call home or sleep after the flight.
For the best days and hours to travel all summer, read our guide to getting to the Hamptons.
Landing at JFK

Give us your flight number when you book. We track the flight and move your pickup if it lands early or late. Airport arrivals include 60 minutes of complimentary wait time and real-time flight tracking, on domestic and international flights alike. After that, wait time is billed in 15-minute increments at the published hourly rate.
Your chauffeur waits for you inside arrivals with a name sign, takes the luggage cart and walks you to the car. Meet and greet is complimentary on most vehicles. The Business Class Sedan and Comfort Van carry a flat $39. We quote meet and greet for the Business Sprinter Van by airport pickup terminal.
Landing at Terminal 5 or 7? Car pickups there moved to the Howard Beach lot. Your chauffeur will reach out to you when you land and go over the pickup options. The $39 meet and greet does not apply at these two terminals. For more on every terminal, see our JFK car service.
Car, Train, Jitney or Helicopter From JFK
There are four common ways from JFK to the East End. Here is how they compare when you have just come off a flight.
| From JFK | How it works | Changes | Your bags |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gotham Ride car | Door to door, 1 hr 15 min to 3 hr 10 min on a weekday | None | Chauffeur loads them |
| Long Island Rail Road | AirTrain to Jamaica, then a Montauk Branch train east | AirTrain, often a train change, then a taxi | You carry them |
| Hampton Jitney | Taxi to the Jitney stop in Fresh Meadows, Queens, then the bus | Taxi, then bus, then a ride from the stop | Under the bus |
| Blade helicopter | About 30 to 40 minutes in the air to East Hampton Airport | A car at each end | Check the bag limits |
The train is the cheapest. Trains to the East End run only a few times a day, with more in summer, and many trips change at Babylon. If you are traveling alone with a carry-on and your timing lines up with a train, take it. The Hampton Jitney does not stop at JFK. The Jitney itself says to allow 25 to 30 minutes by taxi from JFK to its Queens stop. The helicopter is the fastest way and costs several times more than a car.

When a Car Is the Better Choice
A car costs more than the train or the bus. It makes sense when the trip itself is the hard part.
Book a Car From JFK When
- You land with checked bags, golf clubs or a stroller
- Two or more of you are going to the same house
- Your flight lands late at night, when trains east are few
- Your house is far from a train station or a Jitney stop
- You have small kids and need car seats
- You want to sleep or work after a long flight
Where We Drop Off on the East End
We drive to every village on the South Fork and to the houses between them. Here is what to know about each stop.

83 miles from JFK
Southampton
The first village past the Shinnecock Canal. On busy days, traffic backs up on County Road 39 just west of town, so we set summer pickups with that in mind.
88 miles from JFK
Water Mill
A small village on Montauk Highway between Southampton and Bridgehampton, home to the Parrish Art Museum. Many of the houses here sit down long private lanes, and we drive right up to the door.
89 miles from JFK
Bridgehampton
Home of the Hampton Classic horse show in late August, one of the busiest weeks out east. If you fly in for it, book early.
94 miles from JFK
Sag Harbor
An old whaling port on the bay side of the South Fork. The drive leaves Route 27 at Bridgehampton and heads north on the Sag Harbor Turnpike.
95 miles from JFK
East Hampton
The village, Main Beach and the estate streets near Georgica Pond. East Hampton Airport, for private and charter flights, is a few miles away in Wainscott.
98 miles from JFK
Amagansett
The last village before Napeague, the open stretch of road between the dunes that leads to Montauk.
109 miles from JFK
Montauk
The end of Route 27 and the longest ride from JFK. We drop off at the hotels, the beach houses and the docks at Montauk Harbor.
Coming from home instead of the airport? Our Manhattan to the Hamptons car service picks you up at your door in the city. Flying into LaGuardia? On a weekday the drive is about the same length, and on a summer Friday it can run up to 30 minutes longer. Our LaGuardia car service also goes all the way to Montauk.
Hamptons to JFK Car Service
Heading home? We pick you up at your door for the ride back to JFK. Book it when you book the ride out. The drive west is about as long as the drive east.
| To JFK from | Weekday, off-peak | Summer Sunday afternoon |
|---|---|---|
| Southampton | 1 hr 25 min to 2 hr | 1 hr 30 min to 2 hr 10 min |
| Bridgehampton | 1 hr 40 min to 2 hr 20 min | 1 hr 40 min to 2 hr 30 min |
| East Hampton | 1 hr 50 min to 2 hr 40 min | 2 hr to 3 hr |
| Montauk | 2 hr 20 min to 3 hr 20 min | 2 hr 20 min to 3 hr 20 min |
Google Maps typical traffic to JFK Terminal 4, checked October 2026. Summer Sunday means leaving at 3 pm on a Sunday in July. We also checked 4 pm and 6 pm, and Labor Day Monday at 3 pm. Those times ran within about 20 minutes of these.
When to Leave for an Evening Flight
Take the long end of the drive time and add 2 hours for a domestic flight or 3 hours for an international one. For a 9 pm flight to Europe from East Hampton on a summer Sunday, that means a pickup at about 3 pm. Tell us your flight time when you book and we will suggest a pickup time.

Flying In With Kids
Child seats and boosters are free. Give us each child's age and weight at booking and the seat is installed before the car reaches you. A sedan fits one seat. The Business SUV, the Cadillac Escalade and the vans fit two. You can bring your own seat too, and your chauffeur will help you put it in.
