How car seat rides work
You book the ride the same way as any other trip. The only extra step is telling us about your kids.
Book the ride
Book online or call us. Give us each child's age and weight, and their height if you know it. For an airport pickup, add the flight number.
We install the seat
We pick a seat that fits your child. Your chauffeur, trained to install every seat we carry, puts it in before pickup.
Check it and go
The car arrives with the seat in place. Take a minute to check the fit and buckle your child in. When you're happy with it, you're off.
We clean and inspect every seat between rides, and we retire seats past their expiration date.
Car seats we install
Each child needs the seat that fits their age, weight and height. We carry all three types, so you never haul your own through an airport.

Rear-facing infant seat
Newborns and babies · about 4 to 30 lb
Your baby rides facing the back of the car, up to about 32 inches tall. Babies under 2 ride facing the rear under New York law.

Convertible seat
Babies and toddlers · about 5 to 65 lb
A convertible seat starts rear-facing, from about 5 to 40 pounds, then turns around with a harness, from about 22 to 65 pounds. We set the direction by your child's age and size.

Booster seat
Kids about 4 to 8 · about 40 to 100 lb
A high-back booster lifts your child so the car's own belt sits low on the hips and across the middle of the chest. Kids use one until the adult belt fits, about 57 inches tall.
These are typical ranges from the American Academy of Pediatrics 2026 car seat list. Every seat has its own limits on its label. We match the seat to your child's age, weight and height.
How many car seats fit in each vehicle
Car seats are free up to the number each vehicle holds. Sedans take one seat. Our SUVs and vans take two.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Bags | Free car seats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Class Sedan | 3 | 2 | 1 |
| First Class Sedan | 3 | 2 | 1 |
| Business SUV | 6 | 5 | 2 |
| Cadillac Escalade | 6 | 6 | 2 |
| Comfort Van | 6 | 4 | 2 |
| Business Sprinter Van | 14 | 15 | 2 |
Passenger and bag counts are the most each vehicle carries.
One child and two bags fit a sedan. Two children with a stroller and suitcases need the Business SUV, the Escalade or the Comfort Van. Big families, or a family traveling with grandparents, take the Sprinter.

Strollers and bags ride in the back, so the seats keep the second row.
Need a third car seat?
Call us at (212) 763-7722. A third seat takes the cargo space we keep for luggage, so we set it up as a custom booking with an extra charge. We confirm availability and the rate on the call.
Airport car service with car seats

A chauffeur meeting a family at the arrivals curb.
Most of our car seat rides start or end at an airport. The seat is already in the car when you land, so you can leave your own at home or check it with your bags.
JFK
We track your flight and set the pickup from the real landing time. At Terminals 5 and 7, where car pickups moved to the Howard Beach AirTrain lot, your chauffeur meets you inside arrivals and walks you to the car. See our JFK airport car service.
LaGuardia
LaGuardia is the closest airport to Manhattan and north Brooklyn, and the short drive suits a tired toddler. See our LaGuardia car service.
Newark
We drive families between Newark and every borough, plus towns across New Jersey and Connecticut, with the same free seats. See our Newark Airport car service.
Airport arrivals include 60 minutes of complimentary wait time and real-time flight tracking, on domestic and international flights alike. Meet and greet is complimentary on most vehicles. The Business Class Sedan and Comfort Van carry a flat $39.
Bring your own car seat
You can't order a yellow taxi with a car seat in New York. Cabs don't carry them, so parents who take a taxi bring their own and install it at the curb.
Bringing your own seat is welcome with us too. Some kids sleep better in the seat they know, and some parents use the same seat on the plane and in the car. Tell us when you book, and your chauffeur will help you install it. You do the final check before the car moves.
Not sure your seat is making the trip? Ask for one of ours as a backup.

Kids riding alone, 13 and up
Boarding school trips, summer camp transfers and flights home to family. Parents book us for kids 13 and older who travel without an adult. You follow the whole ride on a live tracking link, in the app or on the web.
At the airport
Tell us the flight when you book. We send you your chauffeur's name to add to the airline's unaccompanied minor form. He meets your child, shows ID and signs for them.
At school or camp
Staff hand your child to the chauffeur at the pickup you set. You see the car leave on the tracking link.
At drop-off
When you book, tell us who will meet your child, with their full name and phone number. Your chauffeur checks that person's ID before handing your child over.
Call us at (212) 763-7722 to book a ride for your child, and tell us who will meet them.
Car seats and New York law
In a private car, New York requires a car seat for kids under 4 and a car seat or booster up to their 8th birthday. Babies under 2 face the rear.
Taxis and liveries are exempt from those rules. The exemption covers the driver's legal duty. Your child faces the same risk in any car, so every child who needs a seat gets one in ours.

Where we pick up families
We drive families from every borough, from Brooklyn brownstones to Manhattan hotels, and across New Jersey and Connecticut. In Westchester we pick up in White Plains, Harrison and Rye. In summer we take families out to the Hamptons, seats and all.

Car seat questions
Are car seats free with Gotham Ride?
Yes. Every SUV and van comes with up to two seats at no cost, and sedans take one. A third seat costs extra because it uses luggage space. Call (212) 763-7722 to check availability and the rate.
How many car seats can I get in one car?
One in the Business Class Sedan or First Class Sedan. Two in the Business SUV, Cadillac Escalade, Comfort Van or Business Sprinter Van. For a third seat, call the office.
Which car seats do you have?
Three kinds, all from top brands: infant seats that face the rear, convertible seats, and high-back boosters. Every seat gets cleaned and checked after each ride, and we replace any seat that reaches its expiration date.
What do I need to tell you when I book?
Age and weight for each child. Height helps us choose between a harness seat and a booster. For a flight, send the flight number too.
Who installs the car seat?
Your chauffeur. We train every chauffeur to install each seat we carry, and the seat is in place before pickup. We still ask parents to give it a final check before the car leaves.
Can I bring my own car seat?
Yes. Mention it when you book, and we'll help fit it at pickup.
Do you provide car seats for JFK, LaGuardia and Newark pickups?
Yes, at all three. We track your flight, and you get 60 minutes of free wait time after you land.
How far ahead should I book a car seat ride?
The same as any other ride. Car seats don't need extra notice.
Can my child ride alone?
Yes, from age 13. You can watch the car on a live map the whole way. For a flight, we send you the chauffeur's name for the airline's unaccompanied minor form. At drop-off, the chauffeur checks the ID of the adult you named.
Does New York law require a car seat in a car service?
Children under 8 need a car seat or booster in a private car in New York. Taxis and liveries are exempt. We still fit the right seat for any child who needs one.
